The role of technology in our lives has been changing rapidly for years- it is hard for parents and clinicians to keep up! This workshop breaks down the latest research on how technology and social media shape young people’s lives — highlighting both the protective factors and the real risks to their mental health. We will share practical strategies for working with families and systems as well as share with you how MST addresses technology related challenges in real world settings.

What does it take to create behavior change — in systems? About a decade ago, a team of implementation scientists came together and discussed their experiences attempting to create systems change . Coming out of that discussion was a manuscript (Powell, et al., 2015) wherein the group developed a list of 'expert recommendations in implementing change' (aka "ERIC"), based on their collective decades of experience trying (and often, failing) to get systems to 'behave' differently. This (now famous) list of 73 things that the experts said needed to be attended to was overwhelming to most readers. In this presentation, we will cover the follow-up study "Simplify, Simplify" where we (Edwards et al., 2026) narrowed the list down to five areas of activity that incorporate the 73 ERIC strategies. This webinar will aim to provide a brief overview of the science on implementation, followed by a summary of the five factors, with time for discussion related to real-world application of these concepts.

The pediatric mental health crisis calls for scalable, upstream prevention strategies that strengthen families and promote healthy child development early in life. This presentation will share lessons learned from the Filipino Family Health Initiative (FFHI), which has partnered with Filipino families across California to implement the Incredible Years (IY) evidence-based parenting programs through culturally grounded, community-engaged approaches.

Drawing from partnerships with parents, grandparents, schools, churches, community-based organizations, healthcare and mental health providers, and city leaders, this talk will highlight strategies used to build a community-wide culture of healthy parenting and early relational health. The presentation will also discuss approaches for integrating evidence-based parenting interventions into real-world community and healthcare systems while conducting rigorous research and advancing sustainable models to expand access for families with infants and toddlers across populations that have historically experienced lower engagement in behavioral health services.

Functional Family Therapy–Early Intervention (FFT‑EI) is an evidence‑informed adaptation of the established Functional Family Therapy (FFT) model, designed to address emotional and behavioral challenges among children ages 6–10 and their families. FFT‑EI targets child‑driven behavioral and mental health concerns earlier in development, with a strong emphasis on family systems and prevention. Across two pilot studies, FFT‑EI demonstrated feasibility, fidelity, and promising outcomes for children ages 6–10 with significant behavioral and mental health needs. Please join us to hear more about this new FFT adaptation and how FFT LLC can help you implement FFT-EI in your community!
